Topic: How to make footage look as if it is coming from different camera?

Hi, I am making a short film on a low budget and I want it to look like it was shot on Super8mm film. Unfortunately I am unable to shoot on actual Super8mm film stock due to budget and time constraints.

There is a scene in the film where the character films themselves in a mirror with a prop 8mm camera, what would be the best way of making it look like the 8mm camera was actually filming but instead was being filmed by a digital camera? i have though about using the digital camera off to the side of the mirror or using an empty mirror frame and filming the actor through it but these seem imperfect and complicated.

Any help/suggestions would be welcome!
