Default No Heroic Character and No Redemption

Hello! I am creating a film where a character becomes a robber, is set up by his boss to get caught by the cops so his boss gets all the money, and the character escapes, and kills his boss. The problem is a colleague of mine brought up that the script wont be engaging because their is no one to root for, and the character has no redeeming factor. Any thoughts?

I think it comes down to the writing - although admittedly, as a writer myself, I'm biased. You need to make the lead character interesting and engaging enough that we want to see him succeed, even if he's a bad person. I think characters that are a mixture of good and bad characteristics are the most interesting and relatable.
