    Default Screenwriting Tips

Hey all! I've always wanted to write a film but I barely know where to start. I've written some basic scripts that I want to improve on - the main focuses for me without sharing that they need to be more professional and 'clever'. Any help would be appreciated!

I'm not sure exactly what you're looking for here? I always recommend starting with a good premise that will work in a very short screenplay. Start with 5 page projects and work on them until you've got something good.

If you want to get a handle on screenplay structure, you can check out "Save the Cat" and the recommended beat sheet. Like most screenwriters, I've developed my own approach over the years, but that's a good, simple place to start.

If you need to improve the dialogue your write, listen to people - the ones you know and the ones you don't. I'm a huge fan of eavesdropping in public places - in gives great insight into how couples, families, and business people talk to each other.
