It is called a rack focus. A lens, typically with a wide open aperture and/or a higher focal length on manual focus can give you this effect.

I'm about to shoot a music vid in a few days and I'm thinking about trying to employ a haze / fog machine to make use of some lights. I want to have a light with blue gel in the background on the left and one with red gel on the right. the scene with be more of a down up angle with the talent on sitting on the hood of a car. The cars head light will probably...

I liked the feel and the mood set. The dialog was decent and got the point across. In my mind I would have liked the first guy to give a little more info on why too many guards was a problem, maybe the in the climax or when they knew that had to go through with it and we calibrate the plan. I get it that it was not planned for the extra security but for those...

Welcome! These are all questions you as an adult (when you get there) will have to decide. No one here can make these choices for you, nor should we. I love that you have passion for film! The biggest thing I always say about people wanting to make films is "just do it". You do not have to be in HOLLYWOOD to fulfill your passion. Just get started and...

Night lighting and feel again! However, the profile shot while bird man was touching her seemed like a missed opportunity for some cool angles. Keep up the good work!

I really liked the hand held shots, but I did not like cutting between hand held to dolly shots. Nice lighting too!

Hi everyone, I would love to know what you think of the teaser trailer for my upcoming short film! The movie was made on an ultra low budget with a small cast and crew, but I think it looks pretty good! I would love to hear your thoughts. https://vimeo.com/276162415

No problem. Let me know which rods you end up getting because I need some as well!

No problem. I would guess a shoulder rig and battery grip would be fine as it is just an inch or two and the rigs have to fit lots of cameras, but I honestly don't know for sure. By the way, when buying a battery grip, don't just look at the canon ones. The one I got was around $50. It works fine except for the battery indicator (shows always full) but came with two extra batteries that each held more of a charge than the original batteries.

There are more video capabilities, autofocus while video being the main one. There is also stereo vs mono sound (if it is ever necessary to use in camera sound, though that is more of a precaution.) However, it is practically the same as the t4i. The t4i was recalled because of the grip, which had some weird allergy issue. So, if you can find that cheaper than the t5i, then by all means go for that. The touchscreen is also highly beneficial.

Unfortunately no, but I appreciate the offer!
  5. Hey Aaron. Made a few comments on your thread.

I appreciate that you ask for my opinion. I don't like to blow smoke and I'll be honest with you. The biggest issue I find I face with my own work most of the time is lack of honest critique.

For myself, I finally accepted that I am meant to do this (writing, directing, photography) and that each little tip that points out something to fix for next time, the better the next time will be. I believe that you are on a very similar path.

I also wanted to ask, did you have help for this one? (I noticed that the overhead camera wasn't on a jib... or was it.).

Right, just ignore the tutoring part :) - His advice is spot on. His tutoring is just an "asset" to him, no need for it.
