    Default Monster Stories

Familiar with the Universal Pictures Monsters: Dracula, Frankenstein, the Mummy, the Wolfman, and the Gill-Man, as well as their movies? Then are any of you familiar with the "remake/reboots" done by Hammer Films? They namely did monster movies with Dracula, the Mummy and Frankenstein but with different titles and different versions of the stories (example their Frankenstein movies only focused on the Mad Scientist Victor Frankenstein and had him playing God and making monsters). How were they able to do that?

If they were able to do that (with different titles/storyline) then could other film companies do that? Like even Disney?

I'm not 100% sure, but I think older stories, like ones that are more than 100 years old (something like that) are in the free market, which means anyone can adapt and use those stories. Here's a Youtube video explaining it (even a mention of Frankenstein and Dracula!)

So hypothetically any production could do a remake of these kind of films? Even Disney?
