Default Do you think this camera lens was worth getting?

I got a 70-300mm mostly to get more movement in the camera. I wanted certain shots for future project that require the camera to move and instead of getting a steadicam or a dolly or a jib, I thought I would get the long lens, and let it do movement. Since it's a telephoto, it can simulate a dolly or a jib shot, since it's moving from far away, zoomed in of course.

It was recommended to be a couple of other filmmakers I asked as a cheaper solution to get the movement.

However, I find myself needing locations with lots space in order to pull it off, but the lens is also very sensitive when it comes to focus. If I want to move the camera lens on a face close up, I only have about an inch or less of depth of field for example.

So I wondering if the lens was even with getting as oppose to equipment to get the same shots, but also have the luxury of deeper depth of field, and not needing as much space in location choices.

    What do you think?

I think it is hillarious you know find out that you need more space with a 300mm lens.

You need to explain how a long lens can move like a jib.

Well I already knew I would need more space, of course, it's not like it was a surprise after the fact, I am just saying it's a challenge.

What I mean is, is that with the long lens, when you tilt, you cover a lot more ground, when you go up and down. You cover just as much ground as a jib, cause you can tilt from point A to point B, instead of booming with a jib from point A to point B. With a long lens, you can reach point A to point B, just with a tilt, rather than booming with a jib.

    Make sense?
