    Default New to film making

Hello everybody, im Jack Alford first of all I have no formal education in media/film or design. I taught myself graphic design but now feel I want to be more involved in film and movies. I understand its a big field.

I have all the necessary software. Full adobe package and im currently following a basic course on premiere pro on YouTube. I am hard working and dont rest till im where I wanna be, I love films, movies, special effects. Everything about films amd movies make me excited about learning.

I only have a cheap nikpn l310 and understand this isnt a really good camera, but im looking to expand as soon as I have funds. Im from a boxing background (I was told I couldn't box, yet carried on and now a coach) im thinking of using this as a kickstarter project to make a short film as I habe access to locations and as I said im creative. The film will be to inspire people to follow therendreams no matter what people tell them.

Any advice, websites, cheap equipment, just any general advice on routes to take etc are very much appreciated.

    Thanks

    Jack

    Welcome to FMF.

My advice will most likely be the same advice from other here, and that is to just go for it. you will learn the most from just shooting a project, editing it, and finding out what works and what doesnt.

As far as kickstarter I would suggest building a fan base before you execute your project.

Get a mic, a tripod, and some Home Depot clamp lights. Get together friends or family and begin making short films. When you can't find people, make experimental videos, nature videos, film events, movies starring yourself, and stop motion videos. Be constantly working and improving your craft.

Get Adobe Story, it will allow you to do screenwriting and preproduction planning.

    ----

DON'T CROWDFUND. Let me repeat that...

    DON'T CROWDFUND

Crowdfunding is wonderful, but you need to have already established a fan base, be putting out fantastic content, know how to advertise, and persuade people into investing into your project.

Crowdfunding is not a site where you can put up your project and within have all the money you desire. It requires strategic planning and mapping out. There are some successful projects, but the ratio of failed campaigns to successful campaigns would surprise you. There are FAR less campaigns that are failed then ones that have done well.

But once you have a decent following and extensive knowledge of filmmaking, go for it!

Quick piece of advice: don't rush things.

Fame and fortune can take up to years to get to. You have time to improve and enjoy your craft. Start small and work your way up.
