  • How to create shadows moving separately to the character?

    Hi there,

I'm working on a short film that tells a story of a character whose shadow starts to live its own life. I would like to have both the character and the shadow in the same shots, but I'm not sure which way is the best to deal with matter. I've tried to generate the shadow as far from the character as possible so I could split the screen and then record the shadow separately. I found that the character would always cover the shadow when he moved more vigorously, so splitting was not possible.

I also tried using a green body suit but did not produce a realistic shadow, because it did not break on furniture. Another way I tried was to have two actors, where one would be out of shot and it would act as the other person's shadow.

Do you have any other suggestions or perhaps know what I could have done wrong when using all the different techniques?

I would really appreciate your help.
