  • Do I need permits to shoot streets and skylines for establishing shots?

If I want to do an establishing shot of a street or city skyline, I was told that I would pretty much need a permit from every building owner who's building is in the shot, and every car owner, who's car is in the shot.

But that can get very costly, and is there any way around that legally at all?

      Hi.
I am going to shoot in my local city (Bristol, UK) using one actor and one crew and a DSLR on a tripod. I asked the local film office if I needed a permit and they said no I didn't. Apart from certain specific locations (interiors of city property, etc.) I suspect that for most cities permits are designed for large crews with loads of equipment and trucks, which would be disruptive.
Have a look at the city's website and see if there's a film office to contact.
