  • To mention a copyrighted property in the special features?

I make movies. I also watch a lot of movies. When I put out DVDs, I like to stuff them full of special features. Is it legal to mention a film I was inspired by on a commentary track or in a behind the scenes feature? If someone from my crew says that they were trying to emulate the competency of Ellen Ripley from Alien and that ends up on the DVD I sell, will I get into trouble?

If you have to arrange copyright to even mention a property, then something went wrong in the world. I'd say it's safe, but sometimes the law can be a right old kick in the behind to you.

I'm quite confident that that would be fine. I'm not a lawyer, but my dad was :)
