  • Aspiring Filmmaker. Don't know where to start.

So I just relocated from Washington to Southeast Missouri. I'm almost 40. I'm watching my mother watch her brothers enter their seventies and watching her look down the barrel of her mortality as well. I've spent a lot of years failing in the system, it plays a large part in my relocating to Missouri. I love watching horror movies. I love reading about horror movies. I don't want to be in my seventies looking back on a life where I didn't even attempt to chase my dreams. I want to be a member of the horror community. That's one of my big dreams. I would love to make horror movies, even shorts. But currently I have no equipment, and no knowledge of where to even begin. I know you can google it, but my issue with googling it is that there is always so much and I don't even know where to start and what is reliable in any measure. What I have is a desire to make movies. Maybe even write some scripts. Maybe even eventually assemble a team and do something more, but right now it's about where to even start. My wife would say something about the energy you put out there, if you don't send it out into the universe how are you going to manifest it? Well, I'm looking to manifest it. Any tips and advice on where to start from scratch would be appreciated.

Welcome to Filmmaker Forum! My small bit of advice is to write a couple of (very!) short horror screenplays - maybe 2 or 3 pages. Shoot them with your smart phone. Then use some free (or very cheap) software to edit them. And repeat. Put them up on YouTube, share them on here, get feedback, and gradually get better. But most important, have some fun with it. Good luck.
