  • Seeking Alliances for Financing and Talent

Don Matos got his start as a film producer at Columbia Pictures under the auspices of David Puttnam, Academy Award-winning producer of Chariots of Fire and The Killing Fields. While at Columbia, Don presented MacArthur genius grant recipient Charles Burnett’s feature project To Sleep with Anger, which starred Danny Glover. He also adapted into a strong cinematic vision the critically-acclaimed novel Who Killed Palomino Molero? by Mario Vargas Llosa, award-winning author and former presidential candidate of Peru.

Don has won or placed in eleven major screenplay competitions, including the Motion Picture Academy Nicholl Fellowships, the Sundance Institute Screenwriters Lab, the American Film Institute National Writers Workshop, PAGE International Screenwriting Awards, The Chesterfield Film Company Writer's Film Project, The BlueCat Screenplay Competition, Cinestory Screenwriting Awards, and the Eugene O’Neill National Playwrights Conference. Don has also won awards in directing, including the prestigious FOCUS Award for his film The Other Side (, and was trained as a director by Delia Salvi, one of Lee Strasberg’s most respected disciples and a member of the famed Actors Studio.

Don runs his own film, television, and Internet production company, One-Cinema Inc. He is Founder and CEO of The Institute for New Cinema, and its 501(c)(3) non-profit Cultural Center, which is both a film school and a motion picture-television studio with its own online channel that Don is planning to launch. Don created two film schools in the U.S., one of which was the first bachelor’s degree program in digital film in the country. He has a B.A. from Yale University and an M.F.A. from UCLA, both in film.
