  • Crashes: Beyond Frustrating

So I was commissioned to create a simple tribute video for our local gaming casino for an upcoming ceremony. Nothing fancy. They sent me pics of their tribal members who have passed away, I strung them together, added titles, added motion to the stills, added a sound track and couple of voice-overs here and there. Was only 9 minutes and about 50 pics. But Adobe Premiere CS6 kept crashing and crashing and crashing for nearly every edit I made! WTH???? What should have been a 3 hour job max, took me more than 12 hours! Is it because I updated my MacBook to Mavericks??? Anyone else having this issue?

Have you done other recent editing that was fine?

No, i average about 3 crashes a session so I save after every other edit I make. It's a pain in the rear. Guess I will just have to sell a kidney and buy an iMac.

I think your RAM might be running low compared to the amount your programs are using

Get an app called 'Free memory' from the app store, it's free and tells you how much RAM you have available for use. I don't think RAM is the source of the issue however. CS6 often crashes on my Macbook when opening large or lengthy projects; no idea why it does it but it doesn't appear treatable.

Using a Mid 2012 MacBook Pro 15" running OS X with a 2.6 GHz Intel i7 Processor and 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3. The graphics use an Intel HD Graphics 4000 1024 MB, and it has a 750 GB hard drive.

You may have to downgrade your OS. I'm still on OSX Lion because I'm scared of updating!

                  I'm on a late 2011 MBP 2.0Ghz i7, 8GB 1333mhz DDR3 and with a dedicated 256mb ATI + Intel 3000 graphics set.

Mavericks is causing a LOT of issues so that is likely the cause of your issues. I remember Philip Bloom tweeted he had to downgrade the software from Mavericks because of similar issues.

I was thinking the same thing. I have my 13' MacbookPro as my back up laptop and haven't upgraded it to Mavericks but I haven't done any editing on it as of late. Seems like I didn't have any issues until Mavericks came around.

I thought there was an update that fixed that but I could be wrong. Have you checked for the mac update to the software.

yeah everything is updated. Think this weekend I will work on downgrading. I'm always doing that with my tech: resetting to factory settings. I hate software clutter, especially on my iphone and ipad. There's nothing that frustrates me more than having my tech crash when I need it the most.

If that doesn't work, try to find a way to upgrade the ram.

downgraded back to OS Mountain Lion tonight. Reinstalling CS6. will shoot footage tomorrow and edit and hopefully the crashes will end.

Update: was able to load OS Mt. Lion and reloaded Adobe CS6. Did some simple editing over the holidays and everything worked flawlessly!
