  • What would you buy with $4,000

So just got my hour for my lifegaurding job over the summer. I worked it out and I will be making just a little over four grand if I do it all summer long. What would you buy with that kind of money? I will be investing in a T2i and a great glidecam along with other gopro accessories so yeah what would you buy?

And he asked What would you Buy. So I said what I would buy because my kit lens is bad and I want to further enhance the low light capabilities of my camera. There are a few Cine lens I want to go with my 35MM T1.4 Cine Lens. I want a 50MM prime I saw that is around 1k because of its low light capability. There are some more lenses from the guys that made my Cine Lens in 12MM. 18MM, and 85MM that I want to finish my set.

But doesn't a prime lens have a fixed focal length?

Yes they do. That is why I want a complete set for different ranges. They are better for low light situations on my camera and worth not having zoom in my opinion.

So what do you use when you want to zoom?

I don't zoom in my films. I use a spiderrig and walk closer to whatever I am filming.

                      There's a workaround for everything.

If I had $4000, I would pay down my credit card debt. Woohoo!

I'm not saying what I do is right. I was told in school using zoom in a film is bad since then I have avoided doing it.

I agree that zooms should be avoided whenever possible. Physical moves are much nicer.

There are times when you are trying to get the look of a zoom (like the dolly out/zoom in shot for an obvious example) but in most cases, a camera move is better.

With $4000, I would probably invest in a nice post production computer.
