Default Advice on working with Instagram photos in editing

Hi All, This is my first time posting here! I mostly work on documentaries and then I create videos for small businesses and non-profits. When a client or subject tells a great story about an event or something, I, of course, ask if they have photos or videos I can use as b-roll. More and more often they point me to their Instagram account and say they deleted the original photos. So I rip the photos from Instagram but they are obviously terrible to work with because of the aspect ratio and they've been highly compressed. I usually shoot in 4k and deliver in 1080. I've made do, but I don't love the results. I'm just curious to hear from other editors who have run into this and how they've handled it. Thanks!
