View Full Version : AVCHD on Mac?

I have an Apple macbook pro and I'm filming with a Sony a77. I changed the settings but my computer won't playback the files which are AVCHD. Does anyone know how to solve this?

What software are you using?

I'm trying to view them on quicktime but they don't work. I'm just trying to view them off the camera but I can't get them to lay on anything I have.

I don't necessarily want to edit them I just want to watch them. Thought that it fitted into the editing category best.

Far as I know, AVCHD won't play from the files from the camera.

I use Final Cut Pro to transcode them into .mov files. From there I can edit them.

You can VIEW the files thru FCP, too. To make selects before transcoding.

I'll have to check into playing them with VLC. If it works, that helps some.

Well, I'll be damned!

VLC plays the AVCHD .MTS files. Wow, what a great tip...great forum!

This'll come in handy when I'm searching for a specific clip--rather than launch Final Cut to view them.

Many thanks for that, AF!
