Short of the day is a great idea. Whoever has one can just post a short on this thread, maximum of one per day.

Todays short is a well done inspirational film. While it doesn't have extraordinary colour grading or other stand out qualities. its well written and well shot. I enjoyed this one.

Mick, where are you finding these shorts? How do you come up with them?

I like the idea of this!

Mick, where are you finding these shorts? How do you come up with them?

I like the idea of this!

I do Youtube searches and it may take watching 20 shorts before I find one that inspires me, leaves me in awe or one I feel the forum members and I can learn from.

This short has some interesting qualities. I thought the saturation may have been a bit too washed out but the grading was nice. The camera work was good and the audio was well done. A vewry nice project.

Interesting and somewhat disturbing. Not a technical masterpiece but the subject matter touches inner fears.

Today's short is a lesson in set design. You will notice a scene where the slow moving ceiling fan is casting a large shadow on the wall. Its subtle yet makes the scene. Well done cinematography.

I noticed Mick hasn't posted one in a while, so I'm posting one today! This is a really good short I found. It is really good at building up tension, and I liked the cinematography as well. <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VDbm4hpVs58">

Shot with a Canon T2i. This is a wonderful example of what can be done. Although I found the image a bit too crisp, the colour grading is excellent and the camera work is good.

Eventhough this short is about 5 1/2 years old but still awesome. Storytelling at its best, with no dialogue.

This short is funny and while very basic, its got a pleasant colour grade and the makers definitely paid attention to sound.

I am noticing many big name actors are doing shorts now. Its like they are going back to their roots and enjoying the art of film and not just the money of film.

I highly recommend you check out www.shortoftheweek.com. There's some shorts added every week, all of them of great quality.

Here's a nice find I found on Youtube:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l1V1KW1kmms

Not only did it propel the career of one of the film's actors. You may have heard of her ;)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mia_Wasikowska

But the director also made a feature film due to the explosion of this short on the internet, the large step he took in showing the power of digital technology, and the critical praise it received from festivals. The director made a feature in 2010, Hesher, starring Joseph Gordon Levitt and Natalie Portman.

Hello Filmmakers!

I made a new sketch video and I thought I'd share it with you all. Do you like Paul Thomas Anderson and do you like puppets? Then maybe you'll like my new sketch. If not, watch it anyway.

Let me know what you think. I'm always open to hearing feedback.

Thanks,

Tony

Here is a good example of a good short made from a Go Pro camera. Leaves a filmmaker with no excuse when it comes to equipment.

Oooh! How 'Edgar Allen Poe" :) Great use of music in this one. In films with little\no dialogue, music is burdened with having to carry the emotional contour. This is a great example of how music can set the mood. Without giving it away, it was the music that was deceiving our emotions. If the director had used the music at the end - in the beginning, it would have been a completely different film. Very nice!
