Wink THE HOST - Horror Short Film

    Hey everybody,

together with my little team I created a horror short film called "The Host".
We put in a lot of work for the sound design and the post production. I hope you enjoy watching our second short film:

    Cheers

I really enjoyed this! Great sound design, and for the most part I loved the cinematography. The speed ramp effect was cool and the shot where the camera moves downstairs was very well executed. Two pieces of constructive criticism: I was not a fan of the zooms. In general, I would recommend sticking to a focal length for a shot, though others may disagree with me on that one. Two: you did (mildly) break the 180 a couple of times when you were filming the guys on the couch. The line should be between them and the TV, not between all of them since they are watching the TV. The cuts just felt a little awkward.

    Overall great job!

Nice, I like the your approach to this plot. It was very interesting. Good job. Anything I would say beyond this point would only be my own art preference and your eye and art process I'm sure satisfies you. this is what makes movies different the preference of the editor and creator. Great job. the sound sells this short.

The plot does nothing for me. Adult males playing video games is cringey enough and makes me sad for the planet's future. The sound design was well done and it made the short. Good job.

Thank you very much for your kind words and for your constructive criticism! We worked a lot on the sound design, and put a lot of effort in the editing, so I am very happy you like it :)

Until now I never heard about the 180 rule, thank you for that good tip! I just informed me about it. At 0:27min and 3:16min I made the mistake, right?
I deliberately used the hard cuts because the scenes are usually not long and soft cuts drop the tension in my opinion. Maybe I am wrong, what would you recommend?

Thanks again for your helpful tips! :)

Many thanks for the praise! I am always open to criticism, so is there anything you would have done another way?
I am very happy you like the sound design, it tooks the most time for me :)
