Hi everyone! I've just launched my Indiegogo campaign for 'The Warby Range Massacre', a fan film/homage to the classic 1974 film The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. If this interests you, here's a teaser I made for the campaign: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jNG6gSU2YN0 Here is the crowdfunding campaign, if this is something you'd like to support then a...

Yeah, that's what I'm thinking. I've looked at other TCM fan films and it seems they used a similar idea. I'm not going to shoot the chainsaw actually cutting anything, all that will be off-screen and all the footage of the chainsaw will be with the guy running with it so I can get away with it I think.

But it's a Texas Chainsaw Masscare fan film, and I have already written in a hammer (like the original) but there are 2 sequences that need a chainsaw to work. What would be wrong with having a chainsaw without the chain AND it's off/no fuel so it can't turn on?

So, are you saying I should scrap the whole movie now or at least severely re-write it?

I was congratulating you for getting this far in your film making career. Anyway, if your zoom lens is not constant then yes it will change based on the aperture rating of the lens. If you have a 16-50mm f/3.5-5.6 at 50mm of the zoom you will get f/5.6. To keep it constant you go as far as the zoom that you need and set your aperture there and then add...

Well, hopefully you have the option to put the camera in manual mode where you don't have to have an adapter. Just a thought. The slider would only work in conjunction with 4k as you explained your requirements earlier. I just wanted you to open up your options to what you can do to accomplish your shot without having to run out and spend $500 or so on a Osmo...

There is different ways of doing this. It can be done on a tripod with a zoom lens pulling focus. Can be done also with a camera that has great auto focus on a tripod. It can be done on a 4k camera where you have good solid focus and you can zoom a frame half way and in post editing control more of a zoom. The glide cam I feel would have more movement to the...

I had the Osmo 4K camera. It is a good little cam and will get you good shots that others cant get in some cases. Let me say this, different tools work for different applications.. Here is some pros and cons off the top of my head. Go through them and see if this is something you can live with. I did get paid to grab some shots of a ghetto while driving by...

Is that possible? If so, that might be an option.

Hi everyone. I'm in pre-production on my next short film and it includes a scene with a chainsaw (it's a horror movie). Would it be too dangerous to use a live one, even if we make it very safe, or should I just have it off and shoot it wide, off-screen or something? I would rather use a live one but if someone is running with it, I would hate the worst to...

I have to find Felini's 8 1/2 on blu ray. I used to buy all my blu rays at half.com. It was part of ebay, but companies put up straight sales. $2.99 s/h for the first item, 1.89 each additional item from the same seller. They kept raising the % they would take out, and finally closed half.com on August 31st. Now I have to find a new place to get cheap blu rays. ...

You probably never used these Invisilav holders so I can understand your confusion. I threw it out as a means of suggestion depending on scene requirements. I myself is shooting a basketball scene and I'm using a conjunction of lav and boom pole depending on the shot. Wide shots will limit a boom so you will have to be creative as to how you will capture the...

Try the Invisilav and see video here: I'm current looking for an audio solution and I'm leaning toward the Tascam DR-70D (4 cahnnel - 4 XLR Inputs) as a recorder separate from my cam. You can find them from $250 to $300. Or you can get Tascam DR-60DMKII (4 cahnnel - 2 XLR Inputs) that goes from $150 to $200. For my needs I'm going for boom pole (LyxPro...

No problem. Let me know which rods you end up getting because I need some as well!

No problem. I would guess a shoulder rig and battery grip would be fine as it is just an inch or two and the rigs have to fit lots of cameras, but I honestly don't know for sure. By the way, when buying a battery grip, don't just look at the canon ones. The one I got was around $50. It works fine except for the battery indicator (shows always full) but came with two extra batteries that each held more of a charge than the original batteries.

There are more video capabilities, autofocus while video being the main one. There is also stereo vs mono sound (if it is ever necessary to use in camera sound, though that is more of a precaution.) However, it is practically the same as the t4i. The t4i was recalled because of the grip, which had some weird allergy issue. So, if you can find that cheaper than the t5i, then by all means go for that. The touchscreen is also highly beneficial.

Unfortunately no, but I appreciate the offer!
  5. Hey Aaron. Made a few comments on your thread.

I appreciate that you ask for my opinion. I don't like to blow smoke and I'll be honest with you. The biggest issue I find I face with my own work most of the time is lack of honest critique.

For myself, I finally accepted that I am meant to do this (writing, directing, photography) and that each little tip that points out something to fix for next time, the better the next time will be. I believe that you are on a very similar path.

I also wanted to ask, did you have help for this one? (I noticed that the overhead camera wasn't on a jib... or was it.).

Right, just ignore the tutoring part :) - His advice is spot on. His tutoring is just an "asset" to him, no need for it.
