Just back from Libya
Recently I got back from Libya after being there for the last year. While there, I came across an amazing story about Mahdi Zew, a 49 year-old oil engineer who on February 20th, 2011 filled his car with gas cylinders and explosives, and crashed into the antiaircraft gun outside the fortress that dominated Benghazi. His singular act helped to liberate Benghazi, and propel the country into revolution.
Here's the trailer:
The film played in 5 festivals and counting, including Slamdance. If you would like to see the full version, please inbox me.
The year was absolutely crazy. We worked on a music festival in Benghazi that was cancelled by the Muslim Brotherhood on the last day. Currently, there is no enforcable law and order in Benghazi, and everyone has firearms. However, amazingly, there was barely violence even on the low level of Yokohama. Very quiet, and generally self-policing, yet the media rarely reported on that.
