For a short film I made, the viewer is having trouble understanding what is happening in the plot. Basically a character is using a time machine to time travel artifacts to the past, and he puts the artifacts in the time machine, buries it, and then sends it back. A few moments later, the time machine gets sent back when it's not buried, and then it gets discovered in the past and thus changes the past, after it's discovered back then.

However, the viewer is not understanding the concept of the time machine being buried, and thus not discovered, compared to being sent back above ground, and being discovered therefore.

Is there any way I explain it to the viewer without dialogue?
